Privacy Policy
FocusedEra Labs ("we", "us") built Constraint Engine as a creative tool. This policy explains, in plain language, what information the app does and does not collect. We designed the app to keep your data on your device wherever possible.
The short version
- We do not require an account, name, email, or password to use the app.
- We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not collect a device advertising identifier (IDFA).
- Your activity (XP, streaks, history, display name, avatar) is stored only on your device.
- Purchases are handled entirely by Apple; we never see or store your payment information.
Information stored on your device
The following is saved locally on your device using Apple's standard storage (UserDefaults) and never leaves your device unless described otherwise below:
- Your progress: XP, level, current and longest streaks, daily-challenge streak.
- Your session history and any constraints you save to your collection.
- A display name and avatar (emoji, color, or an image) that you choose. These are optional and entered by you.
You can erase all of this at any time from Profile → Settings → Delete My Data, which permanently removes it from your device.
Information sent off your device
1. AI-generated constraints (Pro feature). When you generate an AI constraint, the app sends the creative parameters of your request (such as the selected craft, genre/style, and difficulty) to our backend service, which forwards the request to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate text. These requests do not include your name, email, contacts, location, or any identifier that personally identifies you. We do not use these requests to build a profile of you.
2. Subscriptions. Constraint Engine Pro is sold as an auto-renewable subscription processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles all billing and payment details. We receive only the subscription status (active/inactive) from Apple's StoreKit framework so the app can unlock Pro features. We never receive or store your credit card, Apple ID password, or other payment credentials. Manage or cancel your subscription anytime in your Apple ID settings.
3. Community (not active in this version). A community feature may be introduced in a future update. It is not enabled in this version of the app, and no community data is collected. If and when it is released, it will use anonymous sign-in (no email or password) and this policy will be updated before that feature becomes available, describing exactly what is shared when you choose to post.
What we do not collect
- No advertising identifier (IDFA); the app does not show ads.
- No analytics or crash-tracking SDKs.
- No location data.
- No access to your contacts, photos library (beyond an image you explicitly pick for your avatar, which stays on your device), microphone, or camera.
- No selling or sharing of personal data with third parties for advertising.
Children's privacy
Constraint Engine is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app does not collect personal information or require an account, no special data is gathered from users of any age.
Data retention and your choices
Because your data lives on your device, you control it:
- Delete everything: Profile → Settings → Delete My Data.
- Delete the app: removing the app from your device deletes all locally stored data.
- Subscription: manage or cancel in your Apple ID subscription settings.
Third parties we rely on
- Apple — App Store distribution and subscription processing (see Apple's privacy policy).
- Anthropic — generates AI constraint text from non-identifying prompts, via our backend proxy (Pro feature only).
We do not authorize these providers to use request data to identify you, and we do not share personal information with them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data (for example, when the community feature launches), we will update this policy and revise the effective date above before the change takes effect.
